A DIY Christmas

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…perhaps here in Malta not thanks to the snow covering our streets, but more thanks to the early decorations popping up on façades and balconies all around. This year, you could go the extra mile and ditch the cheesy store-bought decorations to ones you DIY yourself. Your heart will swell larger than that of the Grinch once your relatives start exclaiming how lovely your home looks.

1.Draw On Snowflakes
Feeling nostalgic for that time you experienced real snow in a colder climate? Paint little snowflakes on your windows and mirrors to create that winter wonderland feel. All you need is a washable paint marker to add the fluttery flakes.

2. Fairy Light Globes
No fireplace? No problem. Just fill up a few globes or terrariums with fairy lights to give the illusion of warmth and add some magical twinkle to your living space.

3. Mini Christmas Tree
If you live in an apartment or perhaps you just don’t have the space for a full-scale Christmas tree, you don’t have to miss out on one of the most iconic decorations of this time of year. Just choose a beautiful vase and fill it up with evergreen clippings. Bonus: you’ll get to enjoy a day out in the countryside while you collect them and your house will smell pine fresh until you throw them out. Don’t forget to change the water every few days to keep your clippings fresh!

Upcycle some old sweaters into cute mini mittens and beanies with fabric numbers to mark the passing days of the holidays. You can fill them with small treats for your children, or simply stuff them with gifts for your loved ones.

6. Sweet Centerpiece
Another idea for a centerpiece is a bowl of treats taken to the next level by just separating the sweets according to their wrapper. Stick to warm golds and reds, or cool greens, blues, and silvers for the ultimate Christmas feel.
