We May Have Found Your Dream Location
Despite being such a small island, Malta contains many treasures which make it the ideal residence for people interested in a rich cultural history, vibrant nightlife and good food. A town which embodies all of these characteristics lies in the North-eastern part of the country; Sliema, once the home of Malta’s aristocracy has been transformed into a commercial area, and with just under 17,000 inhabitants, it is hugely popular for its beautiful surrounding seas, abundant restaurants, bars and cafes as well as numerous luxurious hotels.

Sliema Għalik
A literal translation of this Maltese phrase would read: peace/serenity for you, which is quite accurate when considering the type of atmosphere a location such as Sliema puts forward. The town's name was in fact chosen as a form of respect towards the patron saint of Sliema, Our Lady of the Seas, given that it is surrounded by sea and was primarily the location of a quaint fishing village. That soon changed in the 19th century when the village grew into a residential area thanks to the elegant villas and town houses built by the British; given the location, properties where built to overlook the breathtaking sea line and promenade, as many of them still do. In fact, the town has a considerable amount of streets connected with the British era, which is evident through street names such as Norfolk street, Amery street and so on.

There are ample stores in between the two centres to keep even the keenest of shopaholics busy, marking the location as the hub of Malta’s commercial scene. Spoilt for Choice
As it is one of the foremost commercial centres, Sliema is home to many hotels that welcome countless foreign tourists. This would mean that the town must keep its temporary residents happy by making sure they are well entertained and are properly sustained by a healthy dining landscape. It also means that permanent residents are surrounded by an abundant variety of cuisines with price ranges accommodating both the average Joe with a low budget and the well-to-do with a passion for fine dining. Given that so many tourists frequent the areas, the council ensures that the place is kept in the best possible state, which is also one of the many reasons why expats love it so much.

Given, of course, that the large amount of bars found in Sliema is not enough, you could also wander off to Valletta with less than a ten minute drive away, where the up and coming night life area is vibrant. The number of beaches surrounding the area also makes it an ideal location to set up a barbeque and enjoy a bottle of wine during warm evenings.
